It has a Parkland style layout, and this golf course is often called the Grande Dame of Algarve courses. This is one of the oldest and renowned of Portugal and all over the golfing world. The Vilamoura Old course is one of the Algarve’s finest and was rated one in the World’s Top 100 courses by Golf Digest. To get to this course from Carvoeiro you will take a 35 minute drive through the highway.
Quinta do Lago South
The Quinta do Lago South was designed by William Mitchell and kicked off in 1974, just after the revolution in Portugal. The Quinta do Lago South golf course is one of the most famous golf courses in Europe. What makes this golf course special are the strategically placed bunkers and then the hole number 15, a par 3, that when played off the championship tee, requires you to do a 200 metre shot over a lake and onto the green surrounded by trees.
This is one of the most challenging courses that the Algarve has to offer and is great for a big challenge. To visit this great Algarve golf course you will make a 35 minute drive from Carvoeiro.
Quinta da Ria and Quinta da Cima Course
The Quinta da Ria golf complex has two exceptional 18 hole golf courses: the Quinta da Ria and the Quinta da Cima, designed by William Roquemore. These golf courses in the Algarve are for the golfers that like to appreciate a nice view while they are playing. Quinta da Cima was opened in July 2002 as a par-72 course and is already rated as one of the Algarve’s most best-selling championship golf courses. The Quinta da Cima is slightly longer than the Quinta da Ria and is also more competitive, it has dog-leg holes left and right, and camouflaged greens by sand and lakes. This is a challenging Algarve golf course that can be enjoyed by everyone who plays here.
The Quinta da Ria is a par-72 course with two loops of nine holes. The course brings you fantastic highland and ocean panoramas with a lot of European olive trees and algarroba trees. This is a great course and highly recommended for beginners!
Penina Championship Course in Portimão
The Penina Championship Course is just a 15 minute drive away from Carvoeiro and it’s a great Algarve golf course! This is the oldest golf course in the Algarve and it was designed by Sir Henry Cotton. This course has hosted the Portuguese Open many times. The Penina golf course is built on flat land with several long holes, bunkers, and surrounding the course are many trees, lakes and spacious greens.
